A booster station is a pumping station used in a municipality’s rural area as an intermediate station to transport sewage over longer distances. In some municipalities, the distance from the rural area to the municipal gravity sewer is too great to bridge with a single pump — after all, a minimum flow speed of 0.7 m/sec must be maintained in the system to prevent sedimentation and clogging of the pressure pipeline.
A booster station is typically a dual-pump system where sewage is collected and pumped again. These stations are often equipped with a bypass to ensure continued discharge in case of emergencies.
