A mobile pump set is a complete, ready-to-deploy pumping unit that combines a centrifugal pump, a drive (diesel engine or electric motor), a frame or trailer, controls and connections in one configuration. Mobile pump sets are used wherever pumping needs to be temporary, fast to deploy or relocatable: construction sites, infrastructure projects, industrial maintenance, mining, municipal flood response and emergency standby. Because the unit comes complete and pre-tested, you can move it to the next location, connect suction and discharge lines and start pumping with minimal preparation.
At Gorman-Rupp Europe we design our mobile pump sets around self-priming centrifugal pump technology. The pump does not actively suck the liquid; it creates a pressure drop on the suction side, after which atmospheric pressure pushes the medium into the pump. This principle, combined with a robust, service-friendly construction, gives our mobile pump sets reliable performance under demanding site conditions and the kind of solids handling capability that wastewater, sewage and dewatering applications require.
Diesel or electric: two complete platforms
Our mobile portfolio is structured around two complementary product lines. The S-Line is a Stage V diesel-driven mobile pump set, built for autonomous operation on sites without grid power. The E-Line is an electric mobile pump set with an integrated variable frequency drive (VFD), zero on-site CO2 emissions and a whisper-quiet sound profile, ideal for urban projects, noise-sensitive environments and zero-emission zones. Both lines are built on proven self-priming Gorman-Rupp pump technology and share the same hydraulic performance envelope, so you can select diesel or electric without compromising on flow, head or solids handling capability.
Types of mobile pump sets
Mobile pump sets come in several configurations. Trailer-mounted units or wheelsets are easy to relocate between sites. Skid-mounted sets are ideal when the unit stays on one project for an extended period. Sound-attenuated enclosures are used in urban areas and at night work, where noise levels need to stay within local limits. Containerised sets offer additional protection and security on remote sites. Smaller portable diaphragm pumps cover light-duty dewatering and clean water transfer.
Typical applications
Mobile pump sets are deployed in construction dewatering, sewer bypass, stormwater and flood control, industrial process maintenance, HDD (horizontal directional drilling), mine dewatering, irrigation and emergency response. The right configuration depends on flow, head, the medium (clean water, dirty water, sewage, slurry), the maximum solids size and the available infrastructure (power, fuel, noise limits, footprint).
Selection: a structured approach
Choosing the right mobile pump set starts with the application, not the product. Define the medium, the required flow (m3/h or l/s), the total dynamic head (TDH), the suction lift, the maximum solids size and the operating window (continuous, intermittent, emergency). From there you decide on drive type (diesel, electric or hybrid setup), mobility (trailer, skid, container) and accessories (fuel tank capacity, level control, remote monitoring). Our application engineers can walk through this with you and validate the duty point against the pump curve. You can also start with the G.R.A.S.P. pump selector.
Buy, rent or transition
Not every project justifies ownership. Short-term jobs, seasonal peaks and emergency response often make rental the better choice. For recurring duties, fleet operations or critical standby capacity, ownership usually has the better total cost of ownership (TCO). Through our rental partner Archy Rental, customers can also transition from rental to ownership when the project profile changes.
Why Gorman-Rupp Europe
We combine the engineering depth of an application specialist with European assembly, testing and distribution. Each mobile pump set is delivered fully assembled, tested on our European facilities and supported with commissioning, training (Gorman-Rupp Academy) and parts. Our solution-partner approach means we think with you on system level, not just on the pump itself. The Pump People.
