What is a PAH Series Prime-assisted pump?

The PAH Series is a high-head, high-flow priming-assisted centrifugal pump. Like the PA Series, it uses a diaphragm or venturi compressor priming chamber and priming valve to evacuate air from the pump casing and suction line. The PAH Series is specifically designed and engineered for the most demanding mining, construction, municipal, agricultural and industrial applications where higher discharge pressure and greater flow rates are required compared to the standard PA Series.

The PAH Series delivers significantly higher head and flow compared to the PA Series. Where the PA Series reaches a maximum head of approximately 61 m, the PAH Series achieves up to 165 m. The PAH Series also features larger discharge-to-suction ratios for increased performance, enhanced maintenance features, and models up to 16” (400 mm). Both series share the same priming technology and two-year warranty. The PAH Series is the preferred choice when applications require higher discharge pressure or longer discharge lines.

Yes. Like all Gorman-Rupp Prime Assisted pumps, the PAH Series features dry-run capability as standard. An oversized, oil-lubricated mechanical seal allows the pump to run dry continuously without causing damage. An integral seal oil chamber, two lip seals and an atmospheric vent provide additional bearing protection during dry-run conditions.

The PAH Series includes models for both clear liquid handling and solids-handling applications. Clear liquid models (PAH3A through PAH4D) handle up to 350 m3/h at heads up to 120 m with solids up to 12 mm. Solids-handling models range from 4” to 16” and handle up to 3500 m3/h at heads up to 165 m with solids up to 101 mm on the largest model. Specific capacity and head ratings vary per model.

The PAH Series is designed for demanding applications requiring high head and high flow. Typical applications include mining dewatering, large-scale construction dewatering, municipal sewage bypass, agricultural irrigation and industrial fluid transfer. The combination of high discharge pressure, large solids-handling capability and dry-run capability makes the PAH Series suitable for remote or unmanned installations where intermittent flow and challenging suction conditions are common.

Standard construction is ductile iron on all PAH models. CD4MCu duplex stainless steel is available on selected models (including PAH4A, PAH4B, PAH6A, PAH6B, and PAH8A) for corrosive and abrasive liquids containing large solids. The pump features a heavy-duty alloy steel shaft, lubricated bearings, an integral seal oil chamber and two lip seals with atmospheric vent for bearing protection. PAH Series pumps are available in multiple drive variations: basic pump end only, trailer-mounted engine-driven and skid-mounted electric-driven configurations. Engine-driven models can be equipped with engines from Perkins, Deutz, Hatz, Rehlko and other manufacturers depending on pump size and customer preferences. Pump ends can be purchased separately for integration into existing pumping installations or for direct connection to flywheel housings.

The PAH Series uses a diaphragm pump or a venturi compressor priming system. Either system creates a vacuum in the priming chamber. This vacuum evacuates air from the pump casing and suction line to the atmosphere. As air is removed, atmospheric pressure causes liquid to fill the pump. An integral priming valve prevents leaks, which reduces environmental concerns on sewage bypass operations and enables the pump to operate under flooded suction conditions without leaking.

Clear liquid models (PAH3 and PAH4C/D) are designed for fluids with minimal solids content, handling particles up to 12 mm. They use higher-efficiency enclosed impellers for maximum hydraulic performance. Solids-handling models (PAH4A/B/E/F through PAH16A) are built for fluids containing large solids, handling particles from 31 mm up to 101 mm depending on the model. These use rugged semi-open impellers designed for abrasive service. The model selection depends on the medium being pumped and the solids content.

All PAH Series pumps come standard with a two-year warranty, with coverage available up to 60 months. Gorman-Rupp Europe provides application engineering support for pump selection, system sizing and configuration advice from its European facilities in Waardenburg (Netherlands) and Namur (Belgium). Every pump is supported with operation and maintenance manuals, specification data sheets, performance curves and outline drawings in PDF and CAD formats. Parts and service are available through a network of factory-trained distributors across Europe.
